Leap Motion Theremin

This was a project I made for Hack NC 2014 with a friend. Leap Motion is a device that maps the three dimensional space in front of it. A theremin is a musical synthesizer that picks up infrared radiation and outputs a specific frequency in accordance to how far away your hand (or any limb) is away from it. We thought it would be fun to create a a musical synthesizer out of Leap Motion’s functionality and we thought a theremin would be a perfect instrument to emulate with the device. We used Java to create the project as well as the the Leap Motion API and a low level Java synthesizer Library called JSyn.

This is a video demonstrating the program in action (I’m the awkward kid in the back of the video).
